One Day at a Time

Sacred selfishness means making the commitment to become people of substance, people who are filled with gold, who aren’t hollow or filled with lead.

When the inner quest brings change we can be comforted by knowing it’s authentic, has been carefully thought through, and values our past and other people.

Simply put, the better we know ourselves the more personal and pure our actions become because they aren’t hidden, curtailed or contaminated by the forces that shaped our early lives.

The promises of our present and future growth join with increasing self-knowledge and lead us into new visions of ourselves, where the love of life becomes the measure of our values.

It’s human nature for people to have more difficulty giving us support for inner changes than for outer crisis. The people around us want us to get back to being the same people they knew how to deal with, who lived in ways they understood.

It is a paradox, that if we cannot open our hearts to ourselves then we have no foundation for dealing with other people lovingly and compassionately.

. . . self-awareness is the only factor that determines whether our anger is beneficial or malevolent. To find the healthy aspects of our anger requires knowledge and to use it effectively demands that we thoroughly know and understand what we’re doing.
